This really is the best of Young’s admirable showmanship as a composer, and he continues to focus on his widely acclaimed package of muscular, dynamic orchestra, with ethnic instrumental integration and modernized electric rock fusion. His music for the first film was universally acclaimed as a masterpiece by the film scoring community at large, allowing for a more individual character-specific suite per cue. A more sophisticated story-line graces the sequel, as does Young’s presence. Despite raising concerns in China regarding critical reception, overseas reception was almost universally acclaimed.

Even more admirable, however, is the inversely proportional relationship between the downsizing of budget and the increase in box office gross, which of course means round three for the character. It was inevitable for Cheang Pou-Soi that having been blessed with desirable fiscal profits for his 2014 epic, The Monkey King, the legend of Sun Wukong could simply not be contained to one film alone.
